Booking the band

How much it costs and what you can expect

The Essex Yeomanry Band takes booking for concerts, charity events or private functions. We have an extensive library of music from traditional military band scores through to show tunes, jazz and novelty numbers. Although we have a programme of current concert pieces, we can adjust our playlist to fit your event or theme. We are the only UK civilian band that's permitted to wear Queen's Uniform and we have matching livery for our music stand banners. The band prefers to play seated but some instruments can march where required.

Cost to hire the band

If you would like us to give a concert for your organisation or provide background music for your event, this can be funded in several ways:

  • 1) A fee paid directly to the band
  • 2) A smaller fee, supplemented by a percentage of ticket sales

For charity events, fees may be negotiable. Please use the Contact Form below and we will provide a quote for your event.

Transport charges

For local jobs, band members would usually make their own way to the venue. But if you need us to travel any further, the logistics of arranging transport for 40+ musicians, together with instruments, could mean that you will need to pay for coach hire or petrol expenses.

Other considerations

Playing instruments is thirsty work, so we would expect you to provide refreshments. If your event is outside, we'll need a marquee or shelter to perform under (this will prevent damage to valuable instruments if the weather is bad and avoid music being blown all over the place!) We would also need somewhere to change into our uniforms and store instruments. Some members of the band have heavy kit to unload, so arrangements for preferred parking would be appreciated.

How to book the band

Get in touch with us using the Contact Form and we'll discuss your arrangements. Most of the musicians are not professionals and organising upwards of 40 people can take time – please bare with us if you make an enquiry as we need to check who is available and whether we can supply a full band. If this is not possible, we may be able to provide a smaller band, ensembles or quartets. We can also, by special arrangement, supply a single bugler for sounding the Last Post.

Repertoire

Our music library dates back over 100 years and includes traditional marches, overtures and famous pieces as well as up-to-date show tunes, feature items and novelty pieces. The band can perform for a seated audience or play general background music as required. Every, year we work on a portfolio of music but can adapt our programme to fit your requirements. We also carry most regimental marches, hymns, carols and national anthems for formal engagements. For theme suggestions, see below...
